Praying Round the Parish and.......

Praying Round the Parish and.......

I hope everyone has been reading and using in their personal prayers the sections on "Praying Round the Parish" and "Praying Round the Deanery" which have been in the weekly pew sheets since mid-June.

The Prayer Life of the parish doesn't stop at the end of the Sunday morning service. The Prayer Chain members pray every day for those on their intercessions request list. Every week at the Wednesday morning Holy Communion the intercessions include those on the special list for this service. This list is not the same as the Prayer Chain list, but there are quite a few requests common to both. Every other Friday a small group meets in Church at 3:00 p.m., to pray for all those on both Prayer Chain and mid-week intercessions lists, along with many other more varied items.

As well as these formal prayers, as I walk with my dogs around the Parish and town I pray for the roads and places I pass through. Every week I try to walk every day along the roads in the current "Praying Round the Parish" list from the pew sheet. As I walk I ask the Lord for His Peace and Blessing to be on all who live and work in each road and place I pass, for the light of the Holy Spirit to shine into the homes and businesses, schools and workplaces, to bring people to love and worship God through the Gospels of His Son. I pray for the Lord to protect and keep free from crime and fear all the people and their homes and workplaces. Every day when I check the Church post box I stop and pray that our Church, that is us as the body of Christ, may shine like a beacon, bringing Christ's Peace, Blessing and Gospel to the parish and town. We have Christ's own command to us to do this, as in Luke 10, especially verses 5 to 12. Please try to remember to pray Peace and Blessing as you walk or drive around the parish.

But it doesn't stop there! Every week on a Tuesday evening a small group meet for prayer and to share in worship and praise in the Bethel Prayer Centre below Wellington Square Baptist Church. The 24/7 Prayer in Hastings and St. Leonard's group has one or two members from many different, but not all, churches in the town. I have been attending since mid-August, to represent Blacklands parish. We pray for the town, individual church ministries and events, people who need special support, missionary work and ministry to places near and far, the trouble spots of the world and our fellow Christians in danger and being persecuted, amongst many other things. We pray together for about two and a half hours, then each one of us goes away to continue praying privately, until the next meeting or special gathering to pray for a specific topic.

Please pray regularly with us, on alternate Fridays from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m., as the Prayer Group meets in Church. Please pray the Lord's Peace and Blessing for the Parish and town as you travel around and if you can, on Tuesday evenings between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m., spend a few moments in prayer to support those praying in the Bethel Prayer Centre  with the 24/7 Prayer in Hastings and St. Leonard's group.

David.
