Parish Group Meeting

The Parish Group meeting on the `15th April 2013 was a talk by Robert Mucci, entitled “Tribal Artefacts”. It was very well attended and enjoyed by all there. Robert, who has a shop in the Old Town, and is well known locally, gave a very entertaining talk that included showing us many artefacts that he especially brought along. Some of these were very old and valuable, yet he still let them be passed around the audience for examination. There were many tribal artefacts from Africa and the stories behind them were interesting. These included the Medicine Man’s pouch and beads, tribal masks and fabrics. He explained how the masks were made and how the task was so skilled that tribal members could tell who had made the mask, even if that was made many years before. Some of the skills used in creating the fabrics are so intricate that even today, we do not know how it was done.

We were very disappointed when an end had to be called to the evening. Even the biscuits, coffee and tea were taken whilst questions were being asked and the items were being inspected on the tables, where they were laid out! All in all, an excellent evening and we will be inviting him to come along again in the not so distant future.

Our next meeting on the 20th May is the Fish Barbeque with Tush and Pat Hamilton. This is always looked forward to and very well attended. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are £6 per person.

Thanks

The church and hall flower arrangements over Easter were greatly appreciated by everyone.

Thanks to all who helped. Don’t forget that we need someone to arrange the Easter Lily Fund for next year. This entails collecting donations and arranging for a memorial list to be displayed in Church. The purchasing and arranging of the lilies will be done by the flower team.

Thanks to those who place money in the box each time they pick up a magazine. We are most grateful to you.

Daily Bible Readings

A new set of daily Bible readings is available at the back of the church. The United Christian Broadcasting Bible readings last from May to July. These Bible readings are free of charge so please take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to access regular guided readings of the most wonderful book in the world. Also available are daily prayer booklets and daily readings for younger people.

Trades People Required

As you all know we need a lot of work carried out on the church to make it watertight and to improve the inside decoration. If you know of any builders, painters, decorators, plumbers and electricians who have given good service in the past, please pass their details to Jean, Leslie or Paul so we can build a list of reliable trades people we can approach to improve our church.

Mustard Seed Shoe Boxes

We will start our annual appeal for items to send to Eastern Europe in September. However I am already collecting shoe boxes and items to put into them now, so that we can be sure of donating as many filled shoe boxes as possible. So if you have any spare toiletries, flannels, toys, stationary items, hats and gloves please leave them at the back of the church for collection. Jean

Jumble Sale

We will be holding our next Blacklands Bumper Jumble Sale in June (actual date still to be arranged). Please start sorting out your cupboards and wardrobes and bring us all your unwanted items. Contact Jean if you would prefer us to collect any items.

Bible Study

The Bible Study session is on Tuesday 14th May at 7:30 p.m., at 14 Park View. All are welcome!
