Blacklands Parish Group

Our meeting on the 16th April was a Members Hobbies Evening. It was open to all to come and view and those who didn’t attend missed a very interesting and enjoyable evening. It was amazing just how many people we know, have such interesting and dare we say, surprising hobbies. We had clock making, alongside model gypsy caravans. There were copper drawings and wood-burning, also a table where charcoal drawings were demonstrated. A table was devoted to Family History/Ancestry tracing and cricket memorabilia. Collections of Victorian Photos, medals and antique guns with military daggers were displayed. We had demonstrations of lace making, embroidered cards, cigarette card collecting and a table dedicated to Royalty and stamps, including the three Kings of 1937, George V, Edward VIII and George VI. We had a gardening table and a flowers and walks table. A lovely gallery of photographs showing a view from a window at varying times of the year and day drew great interest. A collection of dolls house dolls and beaded jewellery and a table showing the work done by a PAT (Pets As Therapy) Dog, complete with dog and volunteer, rounded off the amazing show! There was something of interest for everyone who attended, helped by a continuous supply of tea and biscuits! All the exhibitors were both willing and keen to answer questions and explain their various hobbies. There was a buzz of interest and chat right to the end of the evening.

Our thanks to all who exhibited and those who assisted in setting up the hall and clearing up afterwards, also those who kept us supplied with the tea and coffee.
