Parish Group

The November meeting of the Parish Group was a talk by Maureen Charlesworth on “Hastings Hotel Life”. Before serving the town as mayor for 4 years Maureen ran first the Yelton and then the Mayfair hotels on Hastings seafront, thus qualifying her to give us a good insight into the workings of a hotel both front of house and behind the scenes. We heard how the need for hotel accommodation had changed over the years and of the effect generated by the opening of lower budget hotels in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed Maureen’s talk interspersed with her great sense of humour.

The next meeting will be on Monday December 17th. This will be our Christmas social evening consisting of a horse race evening organised by Bill and Linda Burrows so bring along your 10 ps. If you haven’t previously enjoyed one of these evenings now is your chance to do so. It will be very light hearted and good humoured. We will also be providing some seasonal nibbles and a glass of mulled wine.

Paul Cabban.

Tea N’ Chat

We will meet on Monday 3rd of December only, for cups of tea and lots of chat from 2 p.m. The first meeting in 2013 will be on Monday, 7th January.

Please try to support this friendly group or at least come and give us a try.

For more information contact 01424 717004.

Calling all singers

We need a choir for our Christmas Carol Service on Sunday 16th of December. If you would like to sing there are two more rehearsals to get you into shape on Monday 3rd and 10th December in the Church at 7 pm. Please give your name to David our organist or contact 0780 5057360 if you are interested.

Carol Singers Still Needed

As you know Jean Gill is good enough to play the keyboard when we sing carols at the local nursing homes.

If you would make a note, please, of the following dates and venues.

Fabee Nursing Home, Fearon Road.

Wednesday December 5th at 2:45 p.m.

Mountside Residential Home, Laton Road.

Thursday December 13th at 2:45 p.m.

Last year, despite being without a choir, we had a wonderful amount of support, so please come along again this year. It gives a great deal of enjoyment to everyone. I know the 5th may seem early but December is a busy time.

Many thanks. You will be reminded on the news sheet again nearer the time.

God Bless.

Margaret Turner

More good works from Christchurch Blacklands & St. Andrew.

Knitting

Jayne Smith thanks all those who have knitted vests and blankets for the Kislizi Hospital, these items are still needed. I have the patterns if anyone would like one, also one booklet, for those who would like to know more about the hospital. Peggy Nessling, Jo Hart and others, give us a regular supply, the knitting is beautiful, as these are “old hands” and very experienced. But new “knitters” are always needed, (experienced or not)

Many thanks. God Bless!

Margaret Turner

Church Flowers

There are still empty places on the Church Flower rota. If you would be able to help, this means that once a year you would supply flowers to be arranged by you or we will give you help with this, please put your name on the list on the notice board in the Baptistry. Many in the past have done this in memory of a loved one.

Many thanks to Barbara White and Leslie Braid for their lovely flowers this month.

A big “Thank you” to June Sears for all her hard work during the past 20 years in arranging the flowers in the Church. Apart from preparing the rota for the weekly flowers, she also helped others when they could not do it themselves. The church always looked beautifully decorated during the Easter, Harvest and Christmas festivals.

Many thanks June.

Linda Burrows

Blacklands Prayer Chain

Any prayer requests may be made to David, on 01424 447132 or 07531 098891 (both of which have voicemail), or by email to blacklandsprayerchain@yahoo.co.uk The Vicar or members of the prayer chain may be able to receive requests also, and pass them on to David for the chain. Confidential matters will stay confidential. Please let us know at the time of the request if the prayers are to be added to the Wednesday morning service intercessions as well.

We have forty seven requests current on our intercessions list, some of which have not been updated for over two years and for which we do not have the name of the person who made the original request. Thank you very much to the seven requesters who have given us update information since the last newsletter. If you can cast your mind back, please and remember if you have made a prayer request for yourself or someone else, it would be much appreciated if you could tell us if the request is still active or the outcome if the prayers are answered or no longer needed. We are always very happy to give thanks to the Lord for prayers answered to our intercessions.

The Prayer Chain would like to welcome new members who would commit to praying every day for those on our intercessions list. Please sign up on the list at the back of the Church, send an email to blacklandsprayerchain@yahoo.co.uk or speak to David in Church at Sunday or Mid-week services.

Blacklands Prayer Group

Blacklands new prayer group will meet on alternate Fridays in St Andrew’s chapel. We plan to meet for an hour between 3.00pm and 4.00pm and pray for our church, our congregation and the wider community, as well as for all the requests on our intercessions lists. In December our meetings are planned to be on Fridays 7th and 21st.

All are welcome and if you want further information please contact Margaret Turner or Jean Wilson.

Christmas Illuminations

Following last year’s much admired garden illuminations at Blacklands Fire (35 St. Helens Park Road, next to St. Helens Court), this years “switch on” of Winter Wonderland was on Friday 30th November at 6:30 pm to the music of “the Melodians”, prior to their Christmas Concert in Blacklands Church at 7:00 pm. There was a collection for Donations at both places for St. Michael’s Hospice.

About the Church Magazine

In the past we have not charged a fee for including one off adverts. In the future we would like a small donation for including these (not church related business) which will help with printing costs. There is also a box at the back of the church if you would like to contribute to the magazine each month.

Many thanks to those that already do so.
